Trips into the area surrounding Fynbos:
The Riebeek Valley
A short drive along scenic roads leads to the
picturesque Riebeek Valley with its two small villages, Riebeek
Kasteel and Riebeek West. This area has become popular with
artists, and restaurants and interesting shops draw people from
surrounding areas and from Cape Town. Wine and olive lovers can
also visit the nearby Kloovenburg Wine and Olive Estate and
other wine cellars.
Darling
Another popular village for day trippers is
Darling – about 45 minutes from the farm. This is the home of
Pieter-Dirk Uys and his theatre, Eva se Perron, is open most of
the year. For wine lovers, the Darling Cellars are en route, as
are the Cloof and Alexanderfontein Cellars. Groote Post, with
wine cellar and restaurant, is a worthwhile detour.
The Swartland Wine Route
This route includes a number of cellars in the
area and offers some excellent wines at reasonable prices. By
prior arrangement, you could be guided through this route by
Johan, a qualified wine guide.
The Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschoek Wine
Routes
The farm is no more than a 90-minute drive from
all of these wine routes. The historic and picturesque
Franschoek village is a delight for tourists, and offers many
restaurants, shops and other facilities. Equally beautiful and
interesting are the much larger centres of Stellenbosch and
Paarl.
The West Coast Fossil Park
Near Hopefield, about 45 minutes from the farm,
is the only fossil park in South Africa where one can see
fossils in situ.
Yzerfontein Beach
For those who want to combine a visit to the sea
with their mountain holiday, Yzerfontein Beach is about 90
minutes away.
Spring Flowers
Enjoy spring flowers on Fynbos Estate and use
Fynbos as a springboard to the whole of the West Coast Flowers
Malmesbury
Malmesbury is a well-equipped town with a
shopping centre, supermarkets and banks, although, sadly, many
of the historic buildings have been torn down.
Tours
Horus
tours in conjunction with Fynbos Estate offer a range of half
day and day tours into the surrounding areas with a focus on
Flowers, Birds, Wine and Olive tastings
